Walk for Inclusion and Respect
Walk for Inclusion and Respect – Honouring, International Day of People with Disability & 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence
Melton City Council will host the Walk for Inclusion and Respect on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, to raise awareness, celebrate disability inclusion, and stand united against gender-based violence.
The International Day of People with Disability promotes understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of people with disability. The 2025 theme, “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress”, highlights the power of collaboration across all abilities to build stronger, more inclusive communities.
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, launched in 1991, calls for collective global action to end gender-based violence, emphasising that violence against women is a violation of human rights.
Combining these observances allows Council to amplify shared themes of inclusion and respect, and to demonstrate leadership in addressing intersecting issues of ableism, gender inequality, and discrimination.
The event will commence at 9:30 am with a community walk symbolising unity and respect, starting at Hannah Watts Park and concluding at the Melton Amphitheatre where the International Day of People with Disability celebrations will begin at 10:40 am.
Program highlights include:
- Addresses from the Mayor, Councillors, CEO, Minister and guest speaker
- Performances by local community groups, showcasing people with disability
- Light refreshments to encourage community connection
- Event photographer and Auslan Interrupter on site
The event will open with a reflective tone acknowledging gender-based violence and conclude with a celebration of inclusion, diversity, and unity.
