Celebrating International Day of People with Disability 2020

The UN theme for International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) 2020 was “Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World”.

In 2020, we promoted and acknowledged the achievements and contributions of people with disability through online stories and videos shared on the IDPwD website and social media channels. This included developing the ‘See the Ability in Disability’ promotional video.

We partnered with the ABC to feature the creative work of emerging content makers with disability. The partnership provided a unique national platform to increase public awareness, understanding and recognition of the contributions of people with disability within our community. Programs ran across ABC Radio, TV, online and on demand.

We also sponsored the Australian of the Year Awards as Alumni Partner to recognise and celebrate exceptional Australians with disability. This included working with the National Australia Day Council on the nominations campaign to specifically target people within the disability sector and make the nominations form accessible.

IDPwD 2020 might be over, but it is important that we keep the conversation going. We encourage you to share your own messages of ‘seeing the ability in disability’ through your online and social media channels using #DisableStereotypes and #IDPwD.
