About IDPwD

Q. How long has IDPwD been running?

A. IDPwD was established in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly, at the conclusion of the United Nations' Decade of Disabled Persons (1983-1992), to promote awareness of disability issues and the abilities of people with a disability. It is celebrated worldwide on 3 December each year. Since 1996, the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) has been responsible for the promotion and awareness raising of the day.

Q. What events were held for IDPwD 2007?

A. Events were held in all states and territories. Registered events in 2007 are listed in the IDPwD 2007 Event Schedule.

Q. Where can I get more information about IDPwD?

A. www.idpwd.com.au is the central source for all information about IDPwD 2008 in Australia. You can also find more information by looking at the state and territory government websites. The UN also has some background information on IDPwD. For more information you can email idpwd@fahcsia.gov.au

Q. Who organises IDPwD?

A. IDPwD is a UN sanctioned day. The Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) coordinates Australia's national celebrations and supports state and territory events.

Q. How do I contact the organisers?

A. For more information you can email idpwd@fahcsia.gov.au

Q. Does the Australian Government have any images of people with disability that we can use for IDPwD promotion?

A. Images are not available through the Australian Government.

Q. Can a link to my website be placed on the IDPwD useful links page?

A. Unfortunately we can't link to every relevant organisation's website. The website is intended to be a dedicated resource, providing information about the day, rather than a general disability resource site. However, we do have limited links to provide visitors to the site with a starting point to find out more information about disability topics and resources.
