IDPwD Disability Community Leaders – Josh Alford

Josh is 15 years old.  Born with no known developmental issues, by 18 months he began showing signs of poor muscle tone, lack of eye contact, delayed speech development and was not an overly happy child.  After starting swimming lessons in high school, Josh represented NSW in the National Swimming Schools Championships.  Josh won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the multi-class events.  During June 2010 Josh joined the Special Olympic group.

Josh has a number of personal challenges that he wants to achieve. He wants to drive a car like his brother, have three jobs so he can buy his grandmother a puppy and swim at the Special Olympics for Australia.

“People are always telling me I can’t do it but I know I can. I will help people like me to see that they can do it too. I am proud to be a Disability Community Leader. I want to help my friends and play sport with them.”
