IDPwD Disability Community Leaders – Ariane Garner-Williams

In her role on the Youth Disability Advocacy Service Steering Committee, a position she has held for the past four years, eighteen-year-old disability champion Ariane really enjoys helping other young people with a disability.  She is also a board member of the Cerebral Palsy Support Network and was co-MC at the Children with Disability Australia launch in May 2010.  Despite the daily challenges presented by her spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, Ariane is committed to telling her story through a variety of print media, and was featured in an interview on the ‘Understanding Prejudice’ DVD produced by Visual Education Australia.

Ariane was a member of the Federal Government’s Youth Roundtable in 2008 and a panel member on the ‘Hypothetical Panel’ as part of Scope Victoria Annual General Meeting in 2007.  She does her best not to let her disability get in the way of having a great life.

“I believe every person with a disability deserves to be treated as equal by every person they encounter.”
