2011 Judging Panel

An independent panel of judges has been appointed to assess the nominations and select the recipients of the Awards.  In addition, experts in two category areas have been appointed to assist with the assessment of nominations.

 The National Disability Awards Judging Panel for 2011 comprised:

• Dr Rhonda Galbally, AO – Panel Chair.   Rhonda is the Chair of the National People with Disability and Carer’s Council
• Mr Ian Silk – member.  Ian is the Chief Executive of Australian Super
• Fiona Smith – member. Fiona is the former Chair of the Victorian Equal Opportnity and Human Rights Commission, and
• Mr Simon McKeon – member.  Simon is  the 2011 Australian of the Year, Chairman of the CSIRO and Business for Millennium Development and the 2011 International Day of People with Disability Patron.

 Specialist judges:

• Local Government Award – Mayor Barry Easther.  Mayor Easther is the President of the Local Government Association of Tasmania and the Mayor of West Tamar Council.
• Inclusive and Accessible Communities Award – Mr David Mason.  Mr Mason is the Director, Disability Rights Policy, Australian Human Rights Commission.
