National Disability Awards 

Nominations for the 2010 National Disability Awards are now closed. Thank you to all those who submitted a nomination.

Finalists and unsuccessful nominees will be notified in writing of the outcome of their nomination in October 2010. If you have any queries please email idpwd@fahcsia.gov.au or phone 1800 440 385.

Award finalists will be recognised at the National Disability Awards Ceremony to be held at Parliament House in Canberra on 23 November 2010. One recipient for each Award category will be announced on the night.

There are six Award categories:

  • Minister's Lifelong Achievement Award for people over 25 years of age who have advanced the rights of people with disability.
  • Young Disability Challenge Award for young people aged 12-25 years who have advanced the rights of people with disability.
  • Business Award          
            Large Business focus 
            Small Business focus (Privately owned and operated with fewer than 15 employees)
    The Business Award will be awarded to businesses who have improved opportunities for people with disability such as greater inclusion, participation or employment.
  • Local Government Award for local government authorities who have succeeded in implementing substantial changes to improve physical, social, economic and cultural access and inclusion for people with disability and their families.
  • Social Inclusion Award 
            School focus 
            Community group focus
    These Awards are for schools and community groups who have actively built in inclusion and full participation of people with disability alongside other students or members of community groups.
  • Accessible Housing Award for property developers, builders and others in the building sector that have developed innovative and accessible private dwellings for people with disability.

About the National Disability Awards

The National Disability Awards are part of the Australian Government's celebration of International Day of People with Disability. The Awards celebrate and acknowledge the achievements and contributions that individuals with disability make to our community, and recognise individuals within our community who have contributed to the disability sector.

Each of the 2010 Award finalists will be invited to attend the National Disability Awards Ceremony at Parliament House, in Canberra on 23 November 2010. One recipient for each Award category will be announced at the ceremony.
